As an American who has live din Ireland/UK for the past 13 years I seen where horses during the boom years people overbred, overbought and generally just went horse crazy. Stud fees dropped or people bred horses just to breed. As with any animal...being put down, euthinized or slaughtered it is the end of a life. What I don't like about any animal dying is the way its done. There must be a more passive way to bring about the end of an animals life - even if it is for consumption.

Keep in mind that she said she wanted reform of the horse slaughter industry meaning more humane slaughtering practices. Slaughter is a cheap way for someone to get rid of a horse that they can no longer afford. Euthanasia as well as disposal of the body can be costly, and once the animal is disposed of the chemicals used in the euthanasia prevents it from being eaten by animals and effects the environment. In slaughter, the horses become a food source. However, I want any animal being

They never let people hear the real sounds because then no one would believe the lie of "it's the humane thing to do". Stop breeding and euth your horse, don't send them to slaughter!

The horses aren't tortured. Most of the videos where they can prove they are in the US there is no blood in the shot, the horse is standing there and it gets shot, falls over and feels NOTHING. The videos that are floating around youtube aren't from US Slaughter plants. most of them are from overseas or Mexico..

I have horses, and I love them, but you are indeed wrong. Horses are indeed livestock. We had a dog problem a few years back and the only way we could do anything about it was because they were bothering livestock, our horses. The only reason we should not consume them is because of some of the products we use in horses. We would have to do testing on these drugs to see if they are safe for use in horses meant for consumption.

Emotionalism. This is a calm video, stating pros of a debate. I just had to have a horse put down. I HATED doing it, but it was done for HER. It was not nice. I let her go while she still had dignity, looked so well, so her last memories were not fear. Was I wrong? I live in the UK, We still have the option of shooting or drugs, shooting is instant, but not nice for the person to see the after effects. They can go for meat, the body can go to feed dogs, but they themselves are gone.

@CanAmFam "Reality check " I am fully aware that slaughter has nothing to do with people who have no conscience and neglect horses. However, as much as this may surprise you, over population does. I am also still waiting on the POSSIBLE solution for this problem, which if you will read my earlier post is what I suggested. I was not looking for a solution for neglect I am looking for a solution for the millions of unwanted horses. Which I am probably going to be waiting for .... forever

HUMANE, key word, HUMANE slaughter needs to be reopened in the US.
End of story.
All of you little 12Y0 girls need to open your eyes to the way the world really works.
Not all horses are wanted.
And guess what? If no one here wants them, they're just going to be shipped to other countries to be slaughtered.
The people who caused it to be shut down in the US have only caused more pain and suffering for the horses.

@CanAmFam may I point out ... you still have not produced a solution for over population ... that IS POSSIBLE. I am aware that slaughter has nothing to do with neglect brainiac. but over population does. and horses are SO cheap that people who do not have the knowledge or means to care for them can afford to buy them. which is a consequence of the ban. still waiting for my solution. and remember the key point it has to be POSSIBLE.
What NEVER gets discussed about slaughter, when it's from the Pro side, is two aspects of this inhumane practice. 1. The Fact that the reason, there are some many "UN wanted horsess" is due to the Over Breadding, and Lottery Breeding. 2. Nor, do they mention the Horrific way in which it is done. All, of the in humaneness of this activities, was here even when Slaiughter WAS legal.. Some worse than others, but nevertheless HORRIFIC..
That can be easily seen, in how they slaughter cows!

Gee, Such pretty, peaceful background music to set the theme for this video watching. But won't cut it. Horse slaughter is heinous, bloody, inhumane, butchery. How about background sounds of the terror, screams, yelling of butchers as they "playfully" torture the horses before the vivisection! And BTW, I am so sick of playing up the "Unwanted Horses" bit.... "Unwanted?" Then why did you all own one, two, three and more. To own a horse is a responsible commitment.
