A true sequel to Meta Fight on the Famicom in Japan (Blaster Master in the west), Meta Fight EX was released as Blaster Master: Enemy Below on the Game Boy (with a color palette for the Game Boy Color) in 2000 in the US. In what may have been an attempt to wash out the bad taste from Blaster Master 2, Enemy Below is extremely similar to the original game, to the point that it could be mistaken for the first game to the untrained eye. A few differences separate the two, most notably a password system, but they play largely the same. Good news for some, a possible deterrent for others. Enemy Below is not quite as good as the game it emulates, a typical shortcoming for many Game Boy games that had NES counterparts, but it's still a fun title and comes recommended.

  • You should've mentioned the keys, hidden power ups and resizing of Jason to maneuver easier; those are the 3 main improvements to the original

  • @Marioshi64 The smaller Jason sprite is definitely a benefit, but I don't see the former two as "improvements." They're just different things, not necessarily better things.

  • Oh, didnt watch all the way to the end before commenting :D

  • Haha, don't worry, I do the same thing all the time. :)

Man, I love the Blaster Master theme tune. Glad to hear they kept it in this game.

  • this is a damn good game. if u have a 3DS, buy this! its SO satisfying

  • @tvandlust Blaster Master (NES) is my favorite game of all time, PERIOD; but I still see some things that can be made better; the resizing of Jason worked wonders as well as Hidden Power Ups like the Shotgun and Armor upgrades, the 3rd, which is the key factor gives us a reason to explore all of those dungeons

The original had more useless dead ends than this one had, because many times I'd go through a gruesome dungeon only to find out there's no boss

  • OH GOOOOOD I NOSTALGIA'D HAAAAARD

  • Blaster Master Boy was a sequel to Robowarrior on the NES. Just saying.

  • <3 Enemy Below. It's not -quite- as good as the original but has better mazes and bosses that rival the greatness of those in the original.

  • sorry i mean enemy below, not series

  • All this series did was put the catacomb levels that belonged in level three, with level 2 and so on. it was kind of stupid.
