Murder may lead to law change April 4th

"Now Rossendale MP Janet Anderson and Haslingden MP Greg Pope are set to request an adjournment debate in the House of Commons to call for the widening of the law to include such an attack under the definition of a hate crime as soon as possible.

Their debate will have to be responded to by the appropriate government minister, but they are prohibited from applying for the debate until sentencing has taken place later this month. They will also be putting forward an Early Day Motion calling on the government to give the matter 'urgent consideration'."

Please write to your local MP about the importance of this issue and ask them to back the call for a debate/motion after sentencing in the Sophie case on April 28th. This website makes it easy it will take a few moments.

Use your own words or quotes from newspapers as that will have more force (chain letters get ignored), but remember to point out that the police in the Sophie case treated it as a hate crime throughout and that the attack on Sophie horrific as it was is just one example of a wider intolerance and abuse that alternative people can face, this includes not just subcultures like goths, emos, metalers, punks, and skaters but anyone who just wants to express an individual style. No-one should face abuse or violence because of the way they dress. You could use examples from your own experience or that of your friends.

Please post back on this thread if you get any kind of response as people are trying to keep track of all MPs who are backing this proposal and those against it.

I wrote to my MP on the 13th and got today a response letter form the 14th saying that they would write that day to the Justice Minister David Hanson asking for his response... and that after the government denied the petition.

This horrific murder has been waiting to happen it the same situation all over the country, every friday night seems to end in some unwanted confrontation. Chavs who just cant handle their alcohol/drugs
