I've had the MT-2 lyin' around for nearly two years now and I figured I should do a review of it. Honestly speaking, I haven't really used it now, since I've found better tones from, for example my Pod X3 Live.

I really don't think it's the best pedal ever, but on the other hand I am yet to find a compact pedal that I would REALLY like. (I get all the neat tones from my Pod, hehe...)

Gear used:
Boss MT-2 (obviously) - through Pod X3 Live's FX loop.
ESP/LTD M-1000, tuned to D standard (DGCFAD)
Shure SM57 for the spoken parts
Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 for editing

Most of the riffs are from Death songs, Scavenger of Human Sorrow and Spirit Crusher. Death is probably my fav death metal band :P

  • Behringer Ultrametal or bossmt2???

  • @EzeeMinecraft Sorry, I'm not familiar with the first one ...

  • Hi dude, i'm a beginner and i have no idea about pedals. Can you have this great distortion with differents guitars, or it depends of the model? ...i don't have a great guitar (beringher met-alien) sorry for my bad english, please aswer i need a thrash sound

  • @witchingmetal100

What a difficult question, you threw at me... I've notived that I'm not much of a pedal guy, I haven't really encountered distortion pedals that I would really like. They bring distortion to any signal that you feed it, so of course your guitar will have an effect on the tone. The MT-2 pretty much kills any signal with a ton of distrortion ... But at the end of the day, I think the biggest thing are the guitarist's skills.

  • Fuck yea Death!

What you'd recommend better for a thrash sound? and I mean real thrash, like Kill 'em All Metallica or Agent Orange sound, I'm trying to decide between Metal Muff and MXR fullbore, I was sugested Metal Zone at a forum, but it doesn't sound thrash at all to me

  • @MehdiGlz Thanks for the comment!

It's hard to say anything about those two pedals because I haven't tried them that much ... Actually I'm not much of a pedal guy anyway xD

  • Sorry for the grammar. Fucking iPhone correction!!

  • I use this pedal through a key city 20 combo with the distorting very low and a super distortion behind it an it sounds very good. I agree that it lacking by itself. Try pudding it with an OD.

  • I've noticed that these pedals just don't sound good unless it's through a tube amp. An amp that is just barely breaking up (like Chuck Berry tone) really brings out the best in these pedals. I have an old Epiphone amp that sounds pretty nice with Boss distortion pedals when it's loud and the pedal isn't providing all of the sound.

  • hey great vid! I agree absolutely. I own a Korg MFX unit and have been using the MT2 model on it and haven't achieved any good results! Since you're a Pod guy yourself, what would you recommend using over the MT2? A Mesa Dual Rec Model? Or a Marshall? Or a fuzz pedal model? What is your opinion on that?

  • Come on headaches?? i always play loud with heavy distortion and dont feel a thing... and this is a great pedal

  • I own one too. I guess what you can try is to keep the lows and high between 0900 - 1500.

As of the mid's, it can be good if its tuned to the low-mid kinda frequency and with the mid gain set at about 1300.

Maybe what this pedal lacks is just the defined kinda punch in its sound that can most probably only be achieved via a tube amp.
