Runs rather well, no doubt due to the chip having hardware tailored to this shadowing technology. It's also likely that the game had close attention from NVIDIA and they did their usual FX series pixel shader program replacements to make it faster with the FX architecture.

  • Ironically, the next game in the engine lineup is much slower(Quake 4). Prey isn't playable unless you use the unsupported NV17 path and use 320x240.

  • @leileilol I played some Quake 4 on it and it's not too bad actually. It is only somewhat slower (and I was playing on my Athlon XP setup instead of the new Core 2 beast at the time). Maybe I'll vid capture that too.

  • @leileilol I remember Quake 4 being a little faster in most circumstances than Doom 3. The framerate in Doom 3 rarely exceeds 75fps on one of my systems, but Quake 4 moves from between 25 (large outdoor areas) to the 120-150 range most of the time.

The game ran far better on Geforces than Radeons because of the leaked Alpha being blamed on ATI staff. I think from that moment, id stopped really giving a fuck about ATI. A fact proven in how the game plays on 9800pro vs fx5950 :)

  • Te graphics of this game still kick ass!

  • gs or gt or fx or gtx ?

  • Great upload. I could not believe my eyes when this game premiered at E3 2002. And then the internet experienced a collective nerdgasm when an alpha build was leaked.

  • Pretty nice, at least it shows what the FX series could do when optimized.
