The great liturgies of east and west share August the 15th in honor of the Mother of Jesus , the Virgin Mary, Theotokos. For Orthodox the Feast of the Dormition, and for Catholics the Feast of the Asusmption. The details of Mary's death are less defined in the Catholic tradition but both the east and west Churches agree that her body was taken up into Heaven. There is also an Anglican observance on this same day.

Pope John Paul II included this in his prayer at Lourdes on August 15th 2004:
"Hail Mary, Woman of sorrows, Mother of the living! Virgin spouse beneath the Cross, the new Eve, Be our guide along the paths of the world. Teach us to experience and to spread the love of Christ, to stand with you before the innumerable crosses on which your Son is still crucified"

Mary, mother to all, take this hymn, played in countless churches this day in your honor, to your son Jesus. An offering to ease his suffering at our hands. Amen

Hail, holy Queen enthroned above, O Maria.
Hail, Queen of mercy and of love, O Maria.
Triumph, all ye cherubim, Sing with us, ye seraphim,
Heaven and earth resound the hymn:
Salve, salve, salve Regina!

Our life, our sweetness, here below, O Maria!
Our hope in sorrow and in woe, O Maria!
Triumph, all ye cherubim, Sing with us, ye seraphim,
Heaven and earth resound the hymn:
Salve, salve, salve Regina!

  • @Acequest7 - I think I've already addressed the silliness about Jeremiah in the comments below. Please brush up on how to correctly translate biblical text based on Hebrew which was used in the book you mention...take a course on ancient history and philosophy so you understand the pagan system of religion in biblical times and what the biblical author is actual referring to....then study theology and doctrine .....after all that come back to me if you still beleive you have a valid point

  • "Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes of bread for the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger." (Jer 7:17-18). Those verses are eerily reminiscent of the Roman Catholic service.

  • @kiwichristian2009 - seems Jer:7 stirs up silliness here again - to quote the bible one must understand the language, history, and context written. The people in this passage do not worship a monotheistic God...the God of Abraham. Translation of the word "mylekhet" is not literal for "queen" Rather this "queen" was a goddess, these people worshipped the moon, and the stars, not the God known to Jews, Muslims, and Christians. Catholics do not "worship" the moon nor Mary the mother of Jesus

  • Mon ami, all heretics think they teach the truth, but as St. Augustine so wisely commented, that's such an absurd proposition, that how can any sect actually believe that? Accept the fact, the Catholic Church is the one true religion, outside of which there is no salvation. Get on board with the program! It'll open a wider vista than you could ever fathom. It takes but a leap of faith, but what you'll find on the other side, will open up the gates of heaven itself. God bless, always!

In perfect harmony with that, in the Hebrew text the word for heaven is actually "e·shmim", which translates to "the heavens", plural. In the OT, "the heavens" generally refers to the sky, or skies, not heaven as Christians know it.

This word is first found in the Hebrew Gen 1:9 "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered"

  • @Acequest7 Dude that is funny! i love when people write fake stuff like that!

  • Correction: It should be St. Bernadette.

  • Worshipping Mary, the Mother of God, is a total misunderstood by the Protestants. It is through Mary's intercession that we pray to Jesus to ask for the grace of God. Why Catholics do that? Because Jesus is Her beloved son, and through the Holy Spirit that Mary had given birth to her Son, the Savior who came to redeem the sins of the world. On Her apparition to St. Benedict, She said " I am the Immaculate Conception". That says it all.

  • Hey u protestant's guess what happens to people who disrespect a man's mother. It was the cause of the only fight i ever had in grammer school. The same reason ur going to one day feel His wrath is the same reason our Lord and Saviour has honored His Mother- Love. So u go on believing your unnatural claptrap theology and I and any one who dearly loves their mother knows She sits at His right hand in his throne room as Queen Mother!!!!

  • The woman will put enmity between the child and the beast.

From this day, all generations will call me Blessed, for THE ALMIGHTY has done great things for me and HOLY is HIS name.

Mary is special. If you hate her, and the way we honor her, you are caught up with the enmity of the BEAST. Go away

  • @curiosity344 What about Saint Joan of Arc?
