My 1969 Morris 1100 S just days before the gearbox made noises that had me rapidly parking the car! On the short drive from the railway station to my home, the shredding input single row, outrigger and lack of mainshaft nose bearing make an awful noise - no it's not a straight cut box!
If your mini, moke or 1100 is making gearbox noises like this video shows, then get ready for a gearbox replacement. Sorry the video angle isnt the best, but the video is mostly about the audio
I assume you replaced the gearbox, so here's a question... did you notice a drop-off in oil pressure leading up to the failure? And did you notice excess wear to the engine bearings etc?
I ask because seen as the gearbox is in the sump, bits of gears would end up in the oil, causing engine damage. It's something that would worry me if I chose to get a cheap 1100 as my first car.
