Those Panosonic video recorders with the barcodes were presumably the forerunner of Videoplus+, but had never really caught on. I do remember TV guides in the Daily Mail and probably the Mirror having the codes inside them, for usually, films, and one was supposed to scan them from the paper onto the to record them, just like a checkout girl would scan your groceries in a shop. I also remember Roy Hudd joking about these and saying that he recorded a box of Corn Flakes and Fish Fingers!
The Martini Extra Dry ad was five years old by that stage, as was the Carlsberg "lie detector" ad. The Cadbury's Roses Christmas ad also looks like it had did the rounds for a few years too, and Resolve had been running at Christmas time since 1986.
Or were companies trying to reflect their ad campaigns of the past decade in the run up to the turning of a new decade?
Two future Emmerdale actors in the Websters ad - Johnny Leeze and Bobby Knutt aka Ned Glover and Albert Dingle.

Ned Glover! That was it! Been trying to remember his character's name for ages! Side-tracking here - but he always reminded me of the Ref in Fifa 95!
Great memories of the old Spectrum computer as I had one second hand, but without the gun and the joystick didn't last long!
