The profits will be sucked up by a few. Sure there will be some jobs. But what it is about is everyone subsidizing the profits and risk for business owners. Around the world it has been shown that building these stadiums cost communities more than they bring in money.

It sounds like you are assuming the stadium will "bring money" into Dunedin as if by magic. But actually it will be "taking money" from you and me -- the people who live here. Think about how long it takes to pay off a mortgage. Then think about how long it will take to pay off a $300 million plus mortgage. With interest.

I hope all the people who wrote comments saying how this plastic stadium was going to be so great now realize, according to media reports:

The Dunedin City Council is millions of dollars in the red and cannot afford to pay its bills.

This will mean massive rates rises, user pays and increased costs on council services, and the sell off of public assets, as the stadium continues to drain money like the large parasite it is.

dunedin is loking really good now they have done up a new mall, open a new mall

we can't afford it fpr fuck sake, why don't we build a space centre where we can launch shuttles into orbit instead that would be great to, but we can't afford it !!... Dunedin is a small city... Aucklanders are getting upset because their new motorway is going to cost 80 million , this in a city with traffic problems, money well spent, Dunedins new stadium is costing 300 million and we're tiny compared to auckland!!
