I have my criticisms of aikido, but these primarily have to do with the way it is taught because I simply haven't found much in the way of good schools in the US and I've been just about everywhere. Being from a wing tsun, escima, judo and wrestling background I can respect a lot of aikido principles. I think the ideas are good, but some of the techniques can be lacking(emphasis on the can be, not always).

g...GREAT!!!

for the dudes who doesnt believe Steven Seagal is not a martial artist, go to wikipedia and search his name, and it will show his aikido details!

@GBlues1 all contact isnt full contact, full contact by definition means 100% effort to perform and resist the technique, aikido has never involved or even attempted to involve that.As far as duelling is concerned,if you cant beat 1 aggressive resisting person, you wont be beating 2 or 3 like the aikido clowns claim.
-
@billysue2 Aikido is pretty full contact, your always touching somebody to throw them. Right? Here is the reality, if you want to get right down to it. If you want me to be an asshole about it truly, all martial arts are bullshit. Full contact or not. If it's based on dueling throw it away, and buy a gun. Is that what you want to here dude? Or would you rather here that the fighter makes the style? As far as the mma fighters....well it's still based on the duel. So it's b.s. too dude.
-
@GBlues1 i know, not think, that both training method and mindset makes a fighter.Non fullcontact, non wrestling styles dont have either .It isnt the extent to which anyone trains, its how they train that matters.Any confidence in ineffective tech is false confidence and will get you into trouble. The clowns in the early mma bouts had confidence in their styles and look at the asswhuppin they got.
-
@billysue2 So you think that the style makes the fighter? Hmmm....interesting way to put it dude. But no I am not mistaken. All styles are effective. It depends on the person and to what extent they have trained. I don't care if it's sitonthefloorandcrydo, if you have faith in it, if you've put the time in to train with it, it will work for you. Faith is a big part of the martial arts. If you have none, you may as well quit. If you don't believe that it will work for you it never will.

@onebigrush70 no human could defend against 5 armed men,its strategically impossible, least of all an 86 year old midget.
-
@GBlues1 yore greatly mistaken on several issues.First,no style is effective v multiple skilled fighters,NONE.Second, the skill set depends on the training method which in turn depends on the style.Training methods without fullcontact striking and wrestling sparring arent effective,so that style isnt effective even though an individual may be naturally tough, ruthless and athletic despite bad training. That style though would still be crap combatatively and aikido tops that list for sure.
Wow I see alot of people putting down Aikido. Man. You guys really must not be martial artists. If trained with a good instructor, with the right mindset, all martial arts are effective in there own way. Even against skilled opponents of other styles, just depends on your skill set, and how well your able to execute said techniques. It's not the style that makes the fighter, it's the fighter that makes the style.
