@broadband01 I want to point out that just because we are descended from English doesn't make us English. Your argument about the British giving us our language, culture, infrastructure could also be applied to the united states. The difference is they decided to drop their link with the crown a few hundred years earlier. However, America was not comparability older than New Zealand at the time. Though I would like to point out that New Zealand doesn't want to go into a revolutionary war over-it

@broadband01 In reality, we are probably more culturally tied with china or the US than with Britain. You say that we are only a young country but for that reason Kiwis feel a stronger desire to define our own culture when it isn't set out in history. I have grown up in a country which is only just gaining its place in the international stage and yet I had to grow up with forigners quoting supposed 'similarities' with Britain or Australia when they actually didn't know anything about us.

@broadband01 I find it highly inappropriate to say that 'most other aspects are the same'. For one thing our ethnic make up is different to NZ. The UK is a country where the indigenous people are the main people but that is different here. But the more important point is that it doesn't matter how old our country is. The reality is around 70 years ago New Zealand became a truly independent country and there has been a cultural change during that period. We are certainly not "anglo"

@Rohivanion yes,but you have been sharing the monarchy for over 300 years?so whats changed?could it be that you have immigration,with different cultures?you are right you are nzealanders,but in most other aspects you are still very much british,your nation is only a few hundred years old,thats nothing in real terms,only a handfull of generations,getting rid of the queen or flag,wont change that,most of you are anglo-nzealanders
