@The1066Al yeah.of course communism isn't a religion and neither is atheism.
Why did argue with you in the first place? O.o
-
@PopBogomil Look at Taosim - it doesn't have a lot of onthology in itself - it is more concerned with how to organise society. You may say Stalin is a taoist as well. Atheism is different from religion not only because it isn't about the worship of god - it doesn't strive to organise society either.
-
@PopBogomil Communism is a religion. It corresponds to three of these four points - it is a fanatical belief that following the doctrines of Marx and Engels will lead to a world paradise, it establishes rules for behaviour in order to achieve that goal - no private property, complete state control. It uses atheism only to explain the first point - how the world came to be. You have a very narrow view of religion. It doesn't always imply gods, onthology and so on.
-
@The1066Al Here is my definition of religion:1) It explains how the world came to be. 2) It sets rules that are to be followed for some transcendent goal to be ahcieved. 3) It revealsthe endpoint of human existence. 4) It gives ethical and moral rules.
-
@PopBogomil so, why did he create hell? Eternal punishment is unreasonable. It achieves nothing. I won't purge my worst enemies in hell for eternity. Why God does so? Is the Christian God less merciful that me?
-
@The1066Al Well Isiah 45:9 seems to suggest a different thing. The argument that God cannot be understood by the human reason comes as an usual defense when Christians try to defend the paradoxes that spring out from the presumptions that God is perfect and the obvious imperfection of our world. If God can be understood by human reason it means he can be judged in his actions. After all he gave us judging abilities in the first place.
-
@PopBogomil But I, as a Christian, do NOT believe in a God who demands unquestioned worship. You are attacking a straw man. You say that the Bible stresses that man can't criticise God, because God transcends our reason. How wrong you are! It is God who gives human reason any validity at all! Something nature cannot do. "With all your getting, get understanding" is a clear command of the Bible - Proverbs 4, v.7. And God certainly DOES exist, by the way!
-
@ogaogaboogamba "you cannot be both" - exactly my point! Therefore Communism cannot be a "religion", and those who are atheistic communists cannot be seen as "religious", because they cannot be both "religious" and "atheists" at the same time. Therefore PopBogomil's definition of "religion" is wrong. Stalin DID NOT BELIEVE IN GOD. He was therefore an atheist and NOT religious, if "religious" means believing in God. It's all very simple, isn't it?
-
@PopBogomil appointed autocrats in the past to secure their power. The orders of the king cannot be questioned, because he is chosen by God who cannot be questioned in his turn.
-
@The1066Al Every unquestionable worship of an external being is a cult to that being. And in Christianity this worship is: 1) mandatory for the well-being of the individual in the afterlife 2) unquestionable - in the bible it is stressed that man can't criticise God because God transcends our reason. This statement of immunity is made by all dictators. Actually, since God doesn't exist exactly this precipice between the natures of humans and God was used by divinely
Internet = Last nail in the coffin for religion.
