  • Thank you Bud....For this great song. So great... I to was a small boy who stood on the beach and watched a house go out the Harbor ....and wondered why they where leaving....

  • Kirk -Thanks for the comment. Yes there's no doubt that was an emotional time for all who

were part of it --leaving home is always sad

but leaving with no hope of ever coming back

is a different ball game altogether.

  • Back in '65 I travelled with my father to Sagona Island in Fortune Bay to help move my grandparents to live with us in St. john's. My grandmother cried from Sagona to Grand Bank and she cried, on and off, until Xmas that year. My grandfather was too proud to cry but he was not a happy man. I was only 18 at the time and didn't realize what culture shock was.. This song brought back many memories of them so thank you so much ! !

  • Thank you for your comment much appreciated. I have heard many sad stories such as yours over the years. I really believe that resettlement is one of the most significant historical events in the lives of our people in this province. I don't mean to say it was all bad experiences because we know that was not the case. It was nevertheless the most wrenching emotional experience particularly for your parents' and my parents' generation.

It still gets me extremely emotional to talk about it .

  • My parents were involved in the resettlement program and they spoke of it often. There was nothing adventurous or romantic about quitting school in grade 5 and going to fish with your father. Fishing back then was a form of servitiude to the fish buyers. It was sad to leave your home but there was a vast improvement in education and health care and you had a future away from the fishery.

  • I have to agree... believe it or not that's my family (a very well known picture :) ...I only wonder what my mom was thinking in this picture. So glad that there is such a touching song made about resettlement

  • I love this video and song

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes I have been in touch with members of the Rogers

family and have plans to visit the area and meet with them.

The photo moved me to write the song and the response has been

    really wonderful. Bud Davidge

  • @lilbobkat Did you get the info that you was looking for about the photo. THe island they came frime etc?

  • The Picture/House he is singing about is My Uncles and my 3 cousins. From Back in 1961 (i think) The house is being towed in from Silver Fox Island to Dover, Bonavistia Bay

  • Great song. Resettlement played a big part in the lives of so many in newfoundland. It's good to hear some good newfie music anywhere in the world. My father resettled from a little place called barrett's cove on woody island in the late 50's.

    Love your music

  • @MrTuckamore

Thanks for your nice comment its so good to hear how others feel about this

traumatic time in our history how our stories are so similar and heartfelt.

Comments like yours make writing the songs worthwhile.

  • I love this song Bud, I own a Lodge and I have been asked a million times what is this about and when I tell them the story of resettlement and the impact on our people, you can see the sadness in their face.

Thank you for recording our history.
