Ford Focus 2001 Dead starter

Car was making this noise. I tried to start it but nothing just this. Maybe starter?

Sorry I have to say this but, it's not the starter but the engine. Dropped valve was the reason, a common issue on this kind of SOHC 2.0 engines with around 140,000 miles that practically destroys the engine. I had to put a new one or rebuilt one from Ford for about $4500 with 3 year warranty. I couldn't afford a new car so I took this chance. So far so good. Good luck with yours.

this is crazy - one day you went to start the car and it just wouldn't make a sound? i feel like you've been hosed. Even if you cupped and broke the top off of a valve - the starter would spin the engine and you'd hear that peice of valve grinding away and the engine skipping while running.

you can run this engine on 2 cylinders (pull the plug wires off of two spark plugs) if one cylinder dies - and it would if the valve broke off - it would still start
