how do you make a landscape like that with a visable sun ?
Akirameerkat 2 years ago
I just used a fractal noise displacement map and for the sun I used a single vertex with halo. Then I added star to it and tweaked the settings. xD

whats a fractal noise displacement map ?

@Akirameerkat Fractal noise is an image, generated by a function that looks like 2D smoke. When used as a displacement map, it acts as a heightmap, using the object's geometry to create height patterns (black = lower altitudes / white = higher altitudes). Fractal noise is very useful if you want to make irregular surfaces, like mountains, or add a more reallistic detail to a surface via bump mapping..

I may never get to that level of achievement. I feel so inferior after seeing your clip...

Hey!I'll tell you how I did the scene: everything started with a single plane. About 16 faces. I added another plane. I deleted 3 of it's 4 vertexes and added a halo material on it. Then Star and sun... I modelled the Falken from a single cube (awful model) And the explosions were from single particle systems on spheres with halo material. The sky was a "simple sky" and for the ground i used a satellite photo from Digital Globe. There's no skill, only inspiration. I believe you!
