I hit the ditch @ 1/2 way point, on a long gravel driveway in Maine, blizzard in progress. This is the second pass. Zero degrees makes the snow freeze to the truck and windshield. It's twilight, I stopped the camera because it was so dark I thought I couldn't be getting anything down. Should have kept filming. I find plowing to be thrilling, this is 5 minutes out of 12 hours of pleasure!

That's "Ollabelle" on the truck stereo, Fiona singing "Elijah Rock"! Snippet of Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike singing "Engineer" at the end.

  • How does plowing work? Are you given a list of streets to plow beforehand?

  • @undescoldmind

Yes, computer list printed out for each storm. Generally the same route, some drop out and some are added in. Major costs in repairs to equipment and having backup equipment standing by. Plowing is extremely hard on vehicles and equipment, yet the job must be done immediately, so backups are a must. I expect $15,000 in costs each winter, barring catastrophes. I'm a small operation, could be much worse. Hard to tell if you are making money, but you know you are having a good time!

  • Wow snowstargazer...that is one loooonnnnnnggggg driveway :-)

  • @maidenvoyage1234

Yeah, thanks, it's a real pleasure. Can be quite rough with rocks, but there is some base down there now.

  • some one tell this guy that if the snow is flying over the plow and over the hood of the truck he is going to fast. and will break something sooner or later....

Don't try this at home, kids!! :-) These are highly trained plow operators with many many years of experience.

Stereo is on shuffle, you never know whats next! : ) And, it's CD quality, not MP3. Fantastic sound in that truck, like being inside the best headphones you can imagine.

  • Come on where's the brooks and dunn?
