Handheld Goldfish

The current size of my goldfish after a second summer in the outdoor tub. (2006-10-15)

Yes, I do know that being held above water is stressful for a fish. That is why I try to handle my fish as fast AND calmly as I can, and always with pre-wetted hands. I handle them like this to keep a record of how much they grow, and only do it when I move them from winter to summer storage or the other way around.

I've only lost one of my five goldfish and I've had them for five years now. This winter is the first they've stayed in an outdoor storage. I used to take them indoors before they outgrew my fishtank. They seem to be doing fine, despite temps being just above freezing.

they're a mixed breed intended for pond living. i keep them in an outdoor tub during summer months.

i have goldfish 2 of them (with suckker) all fish i have are relly relly small maybe all about 1 inch 2 inches long(including suckker) how fast will they grow their in a 20 or 30 gallon tank and pretty clean water please someone helpz me!

Isn't it suppose to jump around when you hold it? I mean, the fish just doesn't mind you held him at all.

@salasuperwoman it was only for a few seconds and he put it back clam the fuck down, fish can breath air, they are just adapted for air to come to them, like in water, so when you take them out, less air comes to them, so they cant breathe,humans adapted to make air rush directly to the blood at any time, by filling up the lungs, however, technically we can breath underwater, but... you would end up dieing after the oxegen got to your blood, beacause the water would go with it

Goldfish are hardy little guys. There's a pond at my college here in Pennsylvania where the Goldfish and Koi survive in a frozen pond in single digit temperatures! Cool video!

i love goldfish they are so cute. i have 4.. 2 big ones that eat a lot and gets scared easily, 1 black one that never likes to eat and is the smallest but never get scared and 1 spotted one its like a gymnastic fish, always swimming and spinning and turning like this mermaid thing its the ugly one in appearance but always acts so beautiful....and why does ur fish not flip when u held him up?
