....same with John Brown ("Al"), so John Lund portrayed a more "suave" version of him on screen [Brown did recreate his role of "Digger O'Dell" in "The Life Of Riley" movie that year]. In fact, Jerry was originally screen-tested as "Al", but was cast instead as "Seymour"...and he and Dean literally "stole the picture" away from Marie and the others.

As most of you may know, "MY FRIEND IRMA" was originally a radio show (1947-'53), and later a TV series (1952-'54). In 1949, creator/producer Cy Howard sold Paramount the idea of a feature film based on the radio series [Irving Brecher also produced a movie based on his successful radio show, "THE LIFE OF RILEY", for Universal that year]. However, Cathy Lewis, radio's "Jane", wasn't "photogenic" enough to appear on screen with Marie Wilson- so Paramount used their contract player, Diana Lynn...
