All very clever but if I needed to destroy sensitive data beyond recovery

and quickly, I'd give it a mighty klonk with a modestly-sized hammer.

One blow would clear either DVD or CD...very versatile, low-tech, no training required, low energy, green, instantaneous and wildly satisfying.
