A Somali Bantu man now resettled in Salt Lake City describes how his brother saved his life after he was shot in the leg by bandits during the Somali Civil War. He says his brother has qualified for resettlement, yet he remains in danger waiting at Kakuma refugee camp to this day.

i feel horrible for the somali bantu and everyone who went through a horrible time during the civil war. Horn of africans (sudanese, Ethiopians, somalis eritreans)treat other africans so bad because colonizers told us we are superior because of our looks. Other africans hate us because we are not "black enough". Arabs call us "abeed" because are too black for them. Being a human sucks some times.

The Somali Bantu are a minority group whose physical features are distinct from major clan Somalis, and their history, language and culture are also unique from other Somali groups. Ali's story is very similar to many of my SB friends, who have family members still languishing in Kakuma, Dadaab and the interiverine areas of Somalia.
