As Austin makes its way out of the recession, hunger remains a top issue of concern in the area. On Saturday, November 21, El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission joined hands with local businesses, churches, community organizations and Austin city officials to provide the ingredients for a traditional Thanksgiving meal to hundreds of low-income families in Austin. Slightly more than 150 volunteers from the Austin Police Department, the National Charity League, Girl Scouts, State Farm Insurance, Dell and the City of Austin came together in the spirit of community to make this event a success. Sponsors included State Farm Insurance, Newflower Farmers Market, LCRA employees, the Topfer Family Foundation and Dell employees.
