Basic 2 Handed Spiral

Lesson Type: Beginners - Intermediate

Alternative Naming: Hand Spirals, Spiral wraps, Double hand-wraps (although I think this is incorrect, as while it is a double hand wrap, you can have your wrists apart and perform a double hand wrap, as demonstrated in this video, so there is a need for distinction)

Prerequisites: Good split-time and wall-plane control.

This move looks brilliant with all poi, including fire. If you're using fire, ensure you take precautions to prevent the heated metal from burning your hands/wrists.

If they're on fire, and they get caught, don't panic, just put your hands together and shake them and they should slide off. I recommend you practice that exit before you light up.

If you're having troubles, a couple of recommendations I forgot to mention in the video, because it's been a while since I've made one. Make sure the poi are even length, make sure your split time is near perfect, when first learning, make sure you're using the twist of your wrists to make the poi unwind, not the movement of your arms.

Apart from that, have fun! If you're having troubles, don't hesitate to ask for advice.

  • acaso esos son calcetines??

  • @fieebree Sí, esos son los calcetines

  • I love doing this trick but i have flowlights with light handles so i can't put my hands together like that and i like to play it short(11" approx) and this is only enough to spin the poi around my hand 3/4 time :S Any idea? If i would make a flowpoi duo from it would it become better with a single loop hande?

  • You should still be able to do it, just try to redirect the poi to wrap around your wrists instead, but if you're still having trouble, then yeah, loop handles may be easier. But I find duos don't work too well for spirals because the head is so long that it doesn't wrap properly. They're certainly still doable, but less comfortable.

  • Are you doing a 90 degree turn out of a 3btw to go into the spiral?

  • That's probably the best way to get into them, yes, but you should also try learning them from any split-time, same-direction move, like windmill, your reels, buzzsaw etc.

  • Your DBZ comment was right on- I named this the "fireball" the first time I saw it because it looked like the guy was doing a hadouken. GREAT videos, btw

  • please teach me how to do it please its hard i cant

  • i juzz love u

  • I keep coming back to your tutorials, they are awesome. Many thanks for doing them!

When you do spirals with fire - do you change your poi loops position on your fingers? I find it a lot more difficult with loops at the tips of my fingers or is it that because my planes are off?

  • i learnt this off my friend before watching this and he and i both mesh our fingers when we do it and dont pull apart at all. I started off by doing it like this and pulling apart then back again but after a bit of practice i found that i can just bounce them off my wrists and keep it going fine. I find this method looks a bit neater because the poi are staying strictly in a perfect circle around my hands.

And btw i love what youre wearing. You're a very classy spinner.

  • i love to learn foi.. but its to hard for me...

  • i like your dragon ballz reference haha oldschool
