------------------------------------------------

15 bucks don't get you you far these days
Though I hope this ticket can erase
Months and months of letting circumstance
Deny us a chance

You left and I didn't blink
Later I started to think
Red light, green light there's no stoppin' now
I'll change your mind somehow

Engine Number 9
Throw me a lifeline

18 miles from your exit
Wheels are turning in my head
Rehearsing what I might say
If you give me the time of day

Faces pass at light speed
Yours is all I need

Engine, Engine Number 9
Throw me a lifeline

(Take my last dime
Get me there on time)
-----------------------------------------------

Alright, this one has some borrowed features from a couple places. First, the chorus was inspired by a children's book "Engine Engine Number 9". I had the gist of a story and most of the guitar worked out, but it wasn't until I was reading this book to my son that it all clicked into place.

The other one is largely unintentional, but I figured I should mention it. The verses are very similar to "Hard Sun" by Eddie Vedder. Same chord progression and similar melodies, though my story is different and the tempo is a bit faster. The song really seperates in the chorus, as Eddie just continues the D#-C#-G# progession and mine takes a new direction.

As I mentioned on "The Note" I am no longer responding directly to vid comments as youtube eats on for every one I reply to. Your support is greatly appreciated and I will do my best to convey this gratitude another way.

  • This is such a great song. One of my favs.

  • @TheMourningKitchen Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it, seeing as your songwriting is certainly some of the best on youtube.

  • Love the tuning on the guitar as well as the performance, nice ascending runs. Also great lyrical content. killer harmonics towards the end as well. hmmmm tuned to an open chord? barring the bottom three strings? Keep it up!

  • @skyhost Sorry for taking so long to respond, you are correct that it is open and that the high strings are open. The only thing you were (slightly) off on is which strings are fretted. It is the 6th, 4th and 3rd. ;-)

  • Justin my bro this song is cool! It has that great 60's pop feel,it reminded me of the Monkees, the album Aquarious Capricorn and Jones when they started to expand a bit. This could be a hit song,it has that sound! I love the chords, the way you're playing them, love that part where the chords go down in steps. Very catchy, I love the cool interesting lyrics too.
