I like this video because the teacher is demonstrating the moves as they are dancing, I went to a dance class I most people didnt know what they were doing so we just ended up guessing or following a lady that seemed to have taken ballet before. it was frustrating.

@smartercat you can start pointe down the road as a late beginner, but certainly not when you're *just* starting. You'll risk seriously injuring yourself, and never learning proper technique. As adults we have the benefit of being mentally prepared for pointework, but it can be more difficult to train our bodies. You will need to take intensive classes (at least 4 classes a week minimum) and a couple of years to build strength. don't get discouraged, you'll get there, but you must be patient

I'm 15 and I'm starting with my first ballet lesson on Saturday... I can't wait! :D

Well they start when their children mostly, I start when i'm 16 so my skeleton is allready done growing. That means it's safer right? I don't need to wait all those years for my feet to get ready when all i need is the strenght. So i am allready very strong, i ahve been exercising. But what do you think?

@smartercat I would say you are doing your feet more harm than good if you're saying what I think you're saying..... ballet dancers strengthen their feet for years before even thinking about going en pointe..... and they also take ballet classes.

personally I think the combination is too complex for them. they are totally concentrated on the sequence of the steps and don´t have any ressource left for focussing on some basic techinique priciples (placement, transfer of weight... I´m not even talking about turn-out). teachers should be aware of the risks of pushing their students through steps....

oh. Looked like she was wearing pointe shoes :/ Btw I am able to stand on the tip of my toes. But i have not been taking ballet classes, just some ballet excerciess for 2 months at home. Can I start pointe? :D (I can stand on the tip of my toes withour shoes)

what would you recommend wearing for first adult ballet class

@damo9811
Normally men are wearing sweatpants and and t-shirt tucked in at the waist with elastic or belt. You can also war tights or biking style shorts. It´s important fot the teacher to see if you´re knees are straight. Maybe men should think of wearing a dance belt for their own protection ---> Pas de deux classes! Legwarmes or a sweater are optional. Good luck and have fun!
