They have style and chops, and there was an individuality to their rendition. Hey, listen to the Swingle Singers...they were white, and hip and very smooth!! Get with the program. Jazz is improvisational at it's best. These kids are great! Get over it~!
I think this is a beautiful rendition! And that 's coming from a die hard Barry Manilow fan... he wrote the music for this Johnny Mercer song after receiving lyrics to many of Johnny Mercer's songs from Mercer's widow.
more listening to real jazz would make your group better. Vocalists, instrumentalists everything.... Check out the BCMEA Vocal jazz 2008 performing this tune, but a different arrangement. You'll hear the differecne and understand. You do not perform a jazz inflection just because....
yeeeeah you need to blend...plus it sounded like everything was being sung loud most of the time without any dynamic contrast. I know jazz songs usually are suppose to "scoop" and "slide" but sometimes you guys overdid it
jazz interpretations of jazz songs usually call for jazz inflections, just to put that out there. emotions in jazz are carried over by the inflections and "punch"...if we had none of those and tons of blend, it would simply a song with nice blend and no feeling.

Inflections are meant for Jazz. A jazz song needs a jazz feel. Inflections gives it that feel.
I agree on blending more though. We were in our earlier stages in this video.
