Hi tech bathroom door at a restaurant in amsterdam

video uploaded from my mobile phone, 30th june 2007. The LCD door turned off & on when locked and unlocked to tggle between opaque and see through (it's in the basement of a restaurant in the park behind the rijks museum and van Gogh museum).

Like moofboo said, is a big film of LCD, very expensive. But when it's ON it goes clear, turn in it OFF will make it opaque.

It's called Electric Privacy Glass, Google it. Electric Glass Wall (dot com) is one of the companies that makes them.

Nope, but I can tell you basically what it is. It is a liquid crystal display (LCD, just like on everything flat and electronic these days). But, it is simply one big opaque pixel that covers the entire door. It has two states, on or off, turning it on makes the pixel opaque, turning it off makes it go clear.

There you go, that's all I know about it!

Actually there's a guy at work who would probably know who makes such windows, I'll ask him next time I happen to see him.
