Practicing yoga increases your energy, power, strength and endurance, while strengthening weak or under-activated areas of the body.

1. Downward Dog creates great sensations within the body. From your toes up to your hips, and down to your finger tips.It is an excellent pose for stretching and strengthening the body, as well as having rejuvenating and invigorating benefits for the body, mind and spirit.

2. Plank Pose targets many areas of the body, and is well known for strengthening and toning the core. It also works on tightening the shoulders, arms, wrists and quads.

3. Cobra Pose works on opening up four chakras within the body. It opens up the chest and reduces tension, stress and fatigue within the body.

4. Wheel Pose energizes you physically and mentally. It is a backbend that strengthens and lengthens every vertebrae, therefore increasing elasticity and flexibility of the spine. As you stretch in wheel pose, you remove fat build up from your oblique area and reduce stiff hips.

5. Fish Pose is known as "the destroyer" of all disease. It helps control hormonal function in the body. This pose releases tension and promotes deep relaxation.

6. Reverse Plank Strengthens the arms, wrists and legs, while Stretching the shoulders, chest, and front ankles. It is a wonderful pose to help eliminate fatigue.

7. Bridge Pose calms the brain and helps alleviate stress, anxiety and mild depression. It stimulates your abdominal organs, lungs, and thyroid and reduces fatigue, backaches, headaches, and insomnia.

8. Shoulder Stand reverses the effect of gravity by revitalizing the organs as pressure is relieved from the lower region of the body. It stimulates all the digestive, nervous, hormonal and endocrine systems of the body, which can greatly improve your overall health. It's a wonderful posture to help reduce fatigue and alleviates insomnia.

  • In case anyone wants to know... the "plank" position really works, it's really helpful for strengthening abdominal muscles, and it is used in the military. :)
