Morse contemplates "art and life" with Lewis in Inspector Morse, episode "Twilight of the Gods", and - for the first time - asks him how the wife and kids are doing!

  • Unforgettable series. I miss Morse very much. RIP, John Thaw.

But I like Ins. Lewis also, of course.

  • I had the BIGGEST crush on John Thaw as Inspector Morse... this show was the one constant during many troubled, turbulant years of my life. I miss this show so much.... RIP John Thaw!

  • They just don't make stuff like this any more, do they? I guess I feel a bit like Morse myself - a classical music enthusiast, a loner, a bit of a moralist, and posessing something as rare in these days as an estethical sense. Maybe that's why I sympathise with him, despite all his human flaws.

  • @ladyjoanna64 Notwithstanding that I`m from England, I have to agree with you. I`ve sojourned here and there in the world, but the television I`ve seen abroad is utterly shocking compared to British `telly` - as bad as our television has become !

  • Seriously, British television is the BEST...!!!!! You can only find this quality of work on British TV. The music, the acting, the story lines, etc.... If you like Inspector Morse, then please watch these: Prime Suspect, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Lewis, Inspector Lynley Mysteries, and for comedy please watch these: Absolutely Fabulous, Vicar of Dibley, Faulty Towers.... and one could go on and and on. You will be very pleased.

  • Followed every episode and am watching most of the reruns on TV at the moment. Morse is a fascinating character - almost a life half-lived. Highly intellectual, with a taste and appreciation for the finer things in life, but rather socially inept, various failed personal relationships and not very good at putting a sock in it. John Thaw is a wonderful actor.

  • @LaBelleMichele Whenever I think of Morse I think of the various ways he can say "Lewis!"

  • Tonight while watching the latest episode of 'Inspector Lewis' and caught myself waiting to hear an exasperated John Thaw as Morse call out 'LEWIS'.... "Inspector Morse' with John Thaw.... what a lovely-lovely show this was...

  • @LaBelleMichele you posted this a long time ago, but I just came across it today. I had a crush on Thaw too...he seems an unlikely subject ...but, like you, I imagine, he appealed to me on many levels. I loved how "authentic" he was, how flawed, how honest. He was very handsome especially when you considered the whole man.

  • As an American I only had no idea who John Thaw was until I came upon an episode of Inspector Morse. It was so different from anything I'd ever seen on television. Watched another one and I was hooked. Amazing actor, well written and beautifully filmed show and I think it is the best thing I've ever watched on the tube. Still think so, 20 years later. I have all the dvds, read all Mr. Dexter's books and now I look forward all year to watching Lewis. I do miss the Chief Inspector so.

  • What has happened to the ITV network, now it shows rubbish? Nothing but four people on a panel judging others, and those canned laughter from video clips we get from members of the public. ITV is absolutely rubbish now. Gone are the days when quality shows like Morse, Sherlock Holmes and Upstairs Downstairs, would regularly be on. I miss ITV the way it was...now it is nothing short of crap.
