In this amusing film made in the 1960's, Alan Whicker visits South Wales to report on how a poor potato crop could spell disaster for the Fish & Chip shops upon which the national economy rests. • People forget that until the 80s when VAT was put on take-away food, fish & chips was a very cheap food. Back in the 60s South Wales was still very industrial and when you work in a mine or steel works you need something substantial to eat.

  • genius detector- van parked up outside no.99 bach.!!

  • What a wordsmith! The man is just fantastic.

  • "...up to our hips in chips, since". Genius.

  • The eater of a chip out of the Times was obviously a lucky, and a more informed, chip eater. Cricket scores especially, around the World.

  • The chip is full of Vitamin C and potassium, you forgot to mention Gwyn - potassium which counter-attacks the salt. And the fish, well what can you say, full of sea goodness and omega-3's - good for the brain and minds-eyes, I have been told....

  • This is terrific.
