This is a video of the first flight in my homebuilt prototype ppg trike. It is powered by a honda clone gx390. There are a few problems that i need to fix before the next flight. This test flight showed me exactly what i need to fix, so i would consider it a successful flight even though climb rate was bad. If you are a ppg pilot and know what you are looking for, you can see the trike pitching forwards and backwards in certain parts of the video. that's my biggest problem that i need to fix. feel free to leave comments. Thanks for watching!

  • thanks for the advice, but this craft has been scrapped. If you look at my other videos you will see my new PPG. Its the red Falcon 4-stroke trike. It has a different redrive setup and more power than the gx390 so i haven't had any more flights like this one.

  • A hang test will tell you where to put the hangers on the bars.

Hope you got by with the following flights

  • @explorateurdesairs

Actually i did do a hang test, but the problem is that the thrust line was above the pivot point on the risers. So whenever i would add power it would tilt me forward and when i would let off i would tilt backwards, ALOT! i have trashed that frame and started over. My other video that has the red trike named the Falcon 4-stroke is my new one that works great.

  • Well thats one way to prove everyone right about hang points...lol Just bustin on ya man...You got a big set for pulling that off.

    Good job!

  • yeah i guess i got a big set, lol. Just glad nothing bad happened. Im getting the hangpoints fixed before next flight so that won't happen again. Thanks

    Later,

    Jesse

  • Hi Jesse ,

Congratulations on the maiden flight .. I can't believe you pulled it off .. man that was one of the scariest flights i've ever seen .. please redo the hang points and look for a better field for the 2nd flight :)

btw. amazing thrust .. but the nosedive kinda killed it .

    Best Of luck ..

    Majed

  • Ha ha, yeah it was a bit scary. And despite what could have happened, nothing did. so in saying that, it was a good test flight and it showed my what i need to change. Thanks

  • Wow, I'm not familiar with PPGs but have flown ultra lights and single engine fixed wing including lots of acro, watching that scared me more than doing inverted spin recoveries! I've got to hand it to you, you are totally committed to your craft. One word of caution, keep an eye on your pillow block bearing temps, ball bearings will take a thrust load but really aren't designed for large continuous loads. The temps will tell the story. Good luck and fly smart!

  • couldnt you find somewhere to fly it where there isnt a light pole every 100ft haha

  • Well thanks, but not its not the first. there are a few others that have them flying, but not many.

  • Wow! To my knowledge, this is the first GX-390 engine in the world that leaves the ground, isn't it? Congratulations Jesse!
