The actress who played young Blanche was very very good. I totally got her feelings of jealousy and resentment.

@TheMarkster1957 Yes, Blanche stews in her jealousy and rage while Jane gets all the praise and glory, however the tables are turned as Blanche grows up to be a successful movie actress, while Jane is forgotten.

I feel sorry for Blanche here Jane gets all of Daddies attention while she gets treated like an unwanted step child.

Jane was such an adorable child, how did she grow up to be such an ugly old woman.

How can a child singing sound like a crazy old lady ?

Many thanks for posting this. "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane" is a great Bette Davis classic. The "campy" style of singing was the trend of those days. It was vaudeville for cryin' out loud! It was usually "over acted". As for "lip synching", you may be right. But she is probably the singer nevertheless. In those days they didn't have wireless microphones. I'll bet you didn't know that My Fair Lady was lip-synched too! Rent Baby Jane--it's great!

@suckittomcat yes, the acting was "overacting", it was carried into the silent films, and some of the first "talkies"...then acting soon changed.
