@oilcraze Very true but this is the perception of the majority of westerners and what they think about the art. Bruce Lee was good but can never be considered a true master since he did not reach the internal level of wing chun. He only knew the first 2 forms and adapted many other fighting styles to aid him in his fighting techniques. What did Jet Li do after he killed his opponent in the duel of who's the best in the movie 'Fearless'? Kung Fu's real secret is inner peace for oneself.

Bruce Lee was able to achieve the highest level of excellence through actual combats against his opponents and peers. In science, a theory has to be proven valid through emperical experimentation. Martial art is a sport, and as with any other sport, the only way to prove an individual or a school's capability or excellence is through competition. That's why Judo is included in the Olympics as well. How do you know if an individual is a true master or not if there is no proof.
-
@oilcraze Why would they want to do something like that. Once you are a true master, you have nothing to prove. Only the noobs in the game of kung fu has something to prove.

Taiji no doubt is an effective combative technique. Hopefully, one day, some Taiji masters will go and fight in the UFC ring to establish a position for this school of martial art, as Brazilian jujitsu and Western boxing do. That will be the ultimate proving ground.

I encountered a Daoist text, which said, that if one must use Chi for martial arts, they should use the chi that is AROUND them, not the chi of their own body. However learning to manipulate environmental Chi, is EXTREMELY hard. Far as I know, there aren't any masters in China who can do it; there were, in the past, I don't know if there are any now.

Across Kung Fu books I've encountered several methods of channeling Chi for martial arts, but I personally strongly dislike all of them. I personally do not know how to channel, or "fire" it, but I consider those techniques dangerous. Chi, is the body's life energy, constantly "firing" it in a fight, will in time deplete your body's chi, and over time you grow weaker and weaker, at least that's my theory.

The Chen style of Tai Chi, uses three frames;
1) The soft frame, don't know what its called, where the moves are done in slow motion.
2) The Pao Chui or "cannon fist," which closely ressembles Shaolin Kung Fu, and finally
3) The Chen small frame, consisting of slow, small movements as the name implies, the Chen small frame does not use big moves, however it focuses the Chi as a "cork screw."

There are two "Wu" styles in China;
1) The one derived from the Yang form named here being the Wu Jianqian style (spellings vary)
2) The other, being the Hao Wei Zheng style, which is derived from the Chen small frame.
Hence, one of the "Wu" styles, is derived from the Yang, and the other "Wu" style is derived from the most advanced frame of the Chen.

Could be something for qinna or maybe just an excercise to keep the wrists working.
At highest lvl of MA, physical strength & techs bcome irrelevant. At tht lvl even with a simple taiji wardoff u already can defeat many fighters. I've seen a 6th Dan Aikido master with complex techs been thrown by a simple taiji peng. U know wht I mean if u can go beyond techs in MA. Best regards friend
