Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (Interstate 278 Exits 30 to 20) south/westbound

The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (more commonly referred to as the "BQE") is one of the most important arteries through NYC, connecting those two boroughs with points west and north of Long Island. The expressway, along with its cousin the Cross Bronx Expwy was one of the more controversial highway projects in NYC when it was completed in 1964. The segment of the BQE from the Battery Tunnel to the Verrazano Bridge is sometimes known as the "Gowanus Expressway" by locals.
