I don't always agree with Mr. Savage. But he nailed this one. We don't have a reason to be there. Al Qaeda fled to Pakistan years ago. What difference does it make if they have a safe haven in Afghanistan if they've had one in Pakistan for years? And if the brutal soviets couldn't win then how could we? By being more brutal than the communists? By fighting a "war on poverty"? By "nation building"? Conservatives used to reject that. Glad Savage is again.

Well there was once a prosperous, thriving nation in Afghanistan. It was Buddhist and was at the centre of a major world trade route. That is why the Arab slavers went to such lengths to conquer them and divest them of all their wealth and indigenous culture. So for the past 1,000 years it has been a destitute, dangerous backwater run by Islamist warlords.

I think Savage is incorrect concerning the sons of what was called the North Alliance fighting against us. The modern terrorist groups got a separate source of funding and the North Alliance (the ones we helped) is now defeated. We didn't finance those who are our enemies today.

9-11 was an American tragedy. Going after the masterminds of it was an American challenge. Those that perpetrated it hated the USA and its pro-Israel, Middle East policies. It had nothing to do with Canada (even though some Canadians died in the two towers). Why are Canadian soldiers losing their lives in Afghanistan? Just because Canada is a member of worthless NATO and has to fight when America has been attacked or its interests are at stake?

I never agreed with war in Afghanistan, I don't see how it makes us safer to go into the region a piss everybody off. Al Qaeda should have been fought through the intelligence arm of the government. Though I do not condone their militant beliefs, you must respect their resolve. One of the weakest countries on the planet was able to hold off the world's most powerful military. Though I feel withdrawing may only embolden the militant Muslims.
