Cellist Vardan Gasparyan was born in 1989 in Yerevan, Armenia. In 1996 he entered the Tchaikovsky Music School and graduated with honors, during which time he regularly appeared in concerts throughout Yerevan. In 2003 and 2004 he took part in the E. Khachaturian National Competition, and received the 2nd prize and the diploma of the Laureate. In 2006, he was awarded the title of "best performer of the cello concertos" by the decision of the Yerevan Music School. In the same year, Vardan entered Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, studying with Assistant Professor Aram Talalyan, renowned cellist, conductor, and member of the Komitas State Quartet. In 2006 he also made his debut with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, performing the Cello Concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns. In 2006 and 2007, Vardan continued to perform extensively throughout Armenia. This included appearances at several music festivals, including the first National Armenian Cello Festival named after Geronti Talalyan and ''Return'' Music Festival, where he performed with famous Armenian violinist Sergey Khachaturian. In 2008, he had concert tours in USA and Canada (Los Angeles, Boston, Toronto and Montreal), receiving high praise and performing to sold out audiences. A year later his chamber group was awarded the First Prize at the Armenian National Chamber Music Competition. In 2011, Vardan appeared with his string quartet performing in the featured film HERE (which is a 2011 Sundance International Film Festival Official Selection), and will be featured on the film's soundtrack. Currently, Vardan is studying with Ronald Leonard at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music.
