"The film depicts a future in which human beings, known as "Oms" (a word play on the French-language word hommes, meaning men), have been brought by the giant Draags to the Draags' home planet, where they are kept as pets (with collars)."

We have nothing that is on the dragg planet either the way they portray it is way to far of a stretch for it to be the way our evolution is going to work.
-
And where does it come up in the story?
-
than your saying it's earth in the past. Go on wikipedia it says they are taken from the earth planet. I suppose our moon has giant bodies without heads used for reproduction too ay?
-
...and the draag homeplanet is earth in the future......they have evidence of ancient human technology which has been excavated by archeologists
-
"The story takes place on a distant planet in what may be the past or the future"
er no
The story takes place on Earth in the future. It comes up as part of the story.
Perhaps you should mention, Planet Sauvage the original French version.
Fantastic Planet had never a dull moment, full of rich visuals, an excellent soundtrack which you also failed to mention.
It is not as simply put as 'enemy races finding peace' it is about slavery, keeping 'pets'. Though a seemingly intelligent and enlightened race the Draags simply view their pet 'domesticated' Oms & wild Oms as unintelligent, dirt, overly reproductive animals. Humans have treated each other similarly, no?
