Ankor Wat from Nintendo's Illusions of Gaia [1994]

The second dungeon to be based off one of the flute melodies: "The Memory Melody." The dungeon itself is actually based off the temple Ankor Wat in India. I first saw it in a National Geographic magazine. Deja vu!

Tough decision trying to choose the right instruments for the melody at 1:01 and 1:23 but I finally think I got it right. I had actually started this piece a long time ago but stopped because I couldn't get the song to go anywhere. You should thank aaooppeerr for encouraging me to try it again. And this is the result! Enjoy!

This sound file was created using Sibelius 5 and virtual instruments from Sibelius Essential Sounds library. No midi files were used. I simply listened to the original music, figured out the notes and transposed the music for an orchestral arrangement.

I would also show the sheet music but that would be edging on copyrights.

Open to constructive comments. :)

  • wow I've hoped for someone to make an acoustic version of Illusion of gaia songs!

    I love it!

  • @99kolle Glad you liked it!

  • i'm glad i could give you that kind of encouragement! now, all i have to do is encourage you to do an orchestral "clash of light and shadow," then i can die a happy man!

  • @aaooppeerr I've been wanting to do "Clash of Light and Shadow" as well. However, I what I have planned in my mind requires choirs and what little choir voices I do have are very primitive and just won't do the song justice. I'd have to buy a choral upgrade before attempting it. Unfortunately those are expensive. The same goes for several other songs such as "In the Earthen Womb" and "The Guardian." So those songs are being reserved for a future time when I have an adequate virtual library.

  • Unfortunately there's no "Adore" button, so I had to settle for "Like". This is an amazing rendition of an amazing song.

  • @diamondlancer

I'm very glad you enjoyed it. :D

  • Elendieldunadan Indeed. Well, I know you have the creative capability to create a masterful recreation of such an ageless, outstanding series of songs. Keep up the good work, and keep going strong. You have more than what it takes.

  • Very, very good job

  • One of my favourite themes in IOG along with Sky Garden. Very nice remix, I like how the main theme follows from the intro at the start.

  • @Elendieldunadan When i was looking around for other remakes i found a version that's VERY similar to yours except he doesn't have the flute intro (can't copy url because it's not allowed) just search for "Angkor wat redone"

  • Ahhh, Ankor Wat. One of the most memorable songs from IoG for me. Probably because of countless hours spent crawling there.

    Well done!

  • oh, that's quite all right. you shouldn't rush something so perfect. but when the chance DOES arise, please do consider taking it. your work is truly inspirational for me; you really don't know just how deep this gets to me. i've literally been searching for any remixes of these songs for the past three years. now, after all this time, i've found them. i can be patient, so just keep up the awesome work!
