because Kasabian came through the filled the gap by targetting the Oasis/stadium rock audience instead of the indie/post rock audience.
Even when I saw Kasabian supporting the Coopers they were on par.
...Oh and one of them left to join dirty pretty things, and their third album wasnt great
Still one of my favourite bands,
Thanks to Xfm airplay and a subsequent Muse supporting show

@MrsBBC Third album was indeed a bit on the mediocre side. I think the first two (ESPECIALLY Kick Up the Fire) sounded so fresh and original because they simply did not fit easily into any musical classification. On the 3rd one they just started to sound like Placebo (which is fine for Placebo, but totally wrong for CTC).
I'm still gutted I never got to see them live though...
