I added two Power Functions motors to the recently released VW Lego set. A medium motor runs the steering, an XL motor drives the rear wheels through a differential. The battery is located right behind the rear seats. The IR receiver module is on the back seat. This was the only possible location due to the motors' short wires and the (current) lack of extension cables.
More pictures of it can be found on my site:

  • hey very good job, can i get the build plan? i want to build it too, have many mod´s built, but this is realy awesome!

  • @shogstar83 I don't have a build plan. I started with the Lego set and modified it bit by bit until everything would fit. Both front and rear structures were completely redone, even though the outer skin looks the same as the original set. I just added a link to some pictures to the description as Youtube will not allow links in comments...

  • It's hard to make Lego drive fast, the parts just aren't strong enough to make much of a gear ratio increase. I'm just impressed that it drives. Nice job.

  • @kovacs88 It is driven by a Power Function XL motor. This motor has a lot of torque and can drive sizable models at reasonable speeds. I'm currently working on the Unimog...

  • @dwegmull this is great! can you get ahold of the new Bus VW model and give us a vid?!!!

  • @harveybacon I'm working on it. I have some pictures on my G+ account but I can't post a link here...

  • @TheApocalypsePwny The motor in the front runs the steering. The motor that drives the rear wheels is in the back, as it should be ;-)

  • the beetle has its engine in the rear actually :P
