A tragic helicopter crash claims the life of a news helicopter pilot and the photographer in Montgomery County, Texas.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (station KTRK Houston) -- A pilot and photographer on board Channel 13's helicopter were killed when the aircraft crashed while covering breaking news in Montgomery County on Monday, according to the station.

Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said KTRK-Channel 13's SkyEyeHD helicopter went down along Peoples Road near F.M. 1488 near Magnolia, Texas, shortly after 11 a.m. The helicopter was flying over the scene of shooting that resulted from a police chase. It crashed about five miles from that scene.

The station has not released the names of the pilot or photographer. The station said the station did not directly employ the two.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

How hard this must have been for the anchor crew and IIona Carson to watch the video footage and report that their chopper had gone down. My heart goes out to all affected in this tragedy, My son and I would always know the distintive sound of skyeye on approach and would run outside and wave as it passed over. Dave Garrett always gave us the best views from skyeye 13 whether it was a police chase or a parade he and the pilot surely will be missed.
