My favorite aria from verdi's opera. Production from Covent Garden, with Paolo Gavanelli and Christine Schafer.

  • one caracteristic of a production (like the orgy in this case) is not going to define the entire thing.otherwise, we didnt meet verdi, so we don't know what he was really thinking.

  • bella schifezza

  • whats schifezza mean?

  • I don't think much of whoever designed the sets, costumes and production in general, it is awful! Which is annoying as Rigoletto one of my favorite operas!

  • David McVicar. Great director, but in this production he went too far for my taste.

  • P.S. as far as I am concerned any director that feels that any opera needs an orgy in it should have their head examined and find a new job as they have obviously missed the entire point. And yes I know I am getting a bit carried away.

  • no, i disagree. I think the orgy is justified, as verdi wanted to show extreme behaviors. Obviously it was imposible in the 1850's to show this, so now is the equivalent. What don't like is the settings and the whole view. Is an empty production.

Talking about decency or not, it doenst matter. art is art and life is life. Being pissed off for nudity i find is stupid. Our world is quite different than in 1800's , so s good to get up to date in productions, and sex is part of our world now.

  • Just watched this again. This is for me the pivotal aria in the opera for after this the spiral into disaster and horror can no longer be prevented. Gavanelli is supreme, his sheer presence makes him THE Rigoletto of the 20th century for me. Absolutely fantastic.

  • When this production was transmitted, live, from Covent Garden I was very ill.My husband too was sick, but got up went downstairs and set the video recorder. True love and devotion I've never forgotten. Thankfully now I have the production on DVD, a fabulous cast and with the late great Sir Edward Downes conducting. I love Davis McVicar's take on this, the saddest of operas for it shows a court weighed down by depravity. A set of desperate, disparate people spiralling to their inevitable doom

  • No es una aria, es un dúo. Sugiero que corrijas el pie del vídeo. Saludos.

  • Ils ont tous la grippe ou quoi? La voix dans les chaussettes!

  • Incredible performance in incredible production. The decadence of the Duke's court was perfect-lets not forget that he was a 'serial shagger' whose court was as corrupt as he. Gavanelli is a triumph in this production. I felt priveledged to see it first time around and have it on DVD now. This aria sums up all his energy and brilliance. Fantastic.

  • this is the best production of Rigoletto of my life.

  • @gtelloz Schifezza aka filth. Beccate questo (look here): watch?v=FD4GL7coLbQ

  • a tratti sono comici. ma il regista chi è? e non parliamo di cantanti e orchestra...

  • This was a great production. Love the way Rigoletto is like some big insect, the way he scuttles around on those 2 big walking sticks.

  • No-body holds a candle to Gavanelli! - Rene
