My grandmom used to just put the bread in a steel bowl in the oven and let it dry out naturally over the course of the week. On Sunday, she'd put them in the blender and blend away! The heat from the stovetop above used to just dry it out. She'd also throw those bread ends from the loaves that no one liked to eat.
