  • Why are you using a suppressor made for 7.62 on a 5.56 rifle?

  • @DontComeToMyHouse The main reason is that the one suppressor is cross compatible. I can use this suppressor on a .308, .300 Blackout, .556, etc. Overall, there is probably just a few DB difference in reduction between the 762-SD and their 556 cans.

  • that is fuckin sexy. what bolt catch lever are you running? ive got the phase 5 on mine. the 762 suppressor on the sig 516 just means that less sound is being suppressed compared to a 556 suppressor, correct?

  • @darith27 Do you mean the charging handle? Everything on the upper is stock that came with the upper. The 7.62 is a bigger bore so the sound reduction should be slightly less compared to a 556 can... I'm guessing a few percent difference.

  • I too have a SIG 516 upper. Even on the suppressor setting, I am getting a lot of gas coming out of the charging handle area while suppressed. I was hoping that the suppressor setting was meant to prevent this. Do you have this issue?

  • @uspc40 I'd imagine that shooting for extended periods of time on standard mode with a suppressor could have a similar effect. I can say that when I unloaded a 30rd mag on full auto, I was choking because of all the gas it kicked back in my face.

  • @canonhf20 I know there are ways to drastically reduce gas face while shooting suppressed. I was just hoping that having a suppressor setting meant I didn't have to rig my AR to not have hot gas blown into my face while shooting suppressed. I've found a product called the AR Gas Vent that looks promising. That along with either a PRI Gas Buster or silicone seal on the charging handle should solve my problem.

  • @uspc40 I believe the suppressor setting reduces the amount of flow since the presence of a suppressor will increase the back pressure. I think it is intended to help compensate and prevent too much pressure from being applied to the bolt. I know that the manual says extended use on the distressed position is not recommended as it can damage the bolt carrier or something on the upper.

  • Thanks

  • @svt283 So far I do. It is the Sig Sauer STS-081. I have only used it for an hour or so but I'll be making more time to shoot with it next week. I'll try to post some updated info then.
