@mrniceguy7113 I think you are talking about an occult meaning, which is the idea of the Gnostics and the Mystery religions. But Jesus said "in secret have I said nothing." (John 18:20) I accept John 17:17 "Thy word is truth" and yes I believe the Bible to be the word of God, (2Tim 3:16) . .. of course the Bible has deeper meanings, but they are the ones found within the text as the bible says"line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little there a little"
@jse7en I just typed in "conversation forums" into google and came across this...It let me start a conversation...let's try it... dubdubdub . topix.com/forum/who/the-conversation/TGT640M19JS55TJ1O#lastPost
@jse7en Let me ask you. When was the first time the "Bible" (all 66 books of the official "canon") appeared together? Who assembled them? When was the first time the gospels and Hebrews appeared together? What is the oldest copy we have of all four gospels together? What is the oldest copy we have with the Gospels and Hebrews together?
@jse7en But what if the "truth of christianity" is not a historical proposition? What if it could be understood differently. All the monotheisms are just fighting over three versions of history. Jesus was God, No he wasn't, Muhammed spoke the Koran from God, No he didn't. Jesus is the Messiah, No he isn't. There is obvisouly something to Christianity, it would not have survived if there was no truth in it. But the "truth" is not a historical "truth".
@jse7en Basically you are a Historical Christian, sometimes called a Historicist. You think that the "truth of Christianity" is a historical truth. It all comes down to the historical proposition "Jesus resurrected". Can we know that with any certainty? If it is true then the "plan of salvation" just follows, because that explains "why die and resurrect". If it is false, then you are "men to be pitied" as Paul says (which I think is a Catholic insertion IMHO)
@jse7en Well that's where this whole thing is going...it is going to the "reliablity" or the "historicity" of the Canon(Bible). When you say things like "the Bible is true" or "the Bible is reliable" are you making an infallibility argument? That every sentence in it is true? Or do you think it has a deeper meaning, a deeper truth, that is reliably transmitted in the Jesus story? Or do you think it provides a vocabulary for describing psychological phenomena that we experience?
@jse7en The "Abomination & Desolation" of November/December 168 B.C.E. would have occurred within the last "7" year of the 70 7's, assuming Cyrus' decree was issued any time between October and December 539 B.C.E. The last "7" year (that is the 372th year --or year 372-- after Cyrus' decree) would end in 167 (Oct.-Dec.), giving a few months for the remaining Jews (the "saints") to do as described in 9:24 (and stay Jew), in order to get the rewards as explained in 7:14b,18,22,27;12:3.
@jse7en Now, since I claimed the seventy 'sevens' were meant to point at 167 B.C.E., the year of the unsuccessful resistance (as per parallel passage 11:31-35a) following the desecration of the temple in Nov/Dec 168, I have to demonstrate it. "From the issuing of the decree" as the starting point. 539 BC.
I appreciate this! Thank you for this video.
