A wildfire stoked by moderate winds burned about 200 acres in the Angeles National Forest on Sunday and threatened homes several miles northeast of Los Angeles. (Oct. 12)

Its a tatic that the LAFD uses called a backburn. They go to where the fire is coming and light a line of the shurbbage.. so that it would burn a little and either be put out or moves up towards the wildfire. That way, when the fire hits, there is nothing more to burn, and it dies.
