I have a question for someone out there. Are any of you familiar with the book Colin Briggs wrote about Miss Ann? I would love it if someone could explain the photo on page 163. Thats not the ending that I saw on Nick-at-Nite. Thanks in advance.
Check out an alfred hitchcock hour episode from 1964 called ''water's edge''.She and john cassavetes are outstanding.Cassavetes was always great playing calculating villians. But sothern is a real surprise.Great episode, and great GREAT performances.Should have gotten awards, but you know what a sham those are huh?
This is one I really get a kick out of. The girls falling asleep just as Devery is reprimanding them is too cute. Miss Sothern was a gem of a person and I was honored to have met her, even if it was only by mail.
She was a very gracious lady, will always miss her. Whoever posts these shows should do episode 92,the last ten minutes of it. That was priceless!
I always loved the opening: "The Ann Sothern Show! Starring! Ann Sothern." Just ONCE I wanted to hear them say: "The Ann Sothern Show! Starring! Erna Crumrine!" It just seems so self-evident. I mean, who ELSE would it be?
@abon2244 I think she was gorgeous, too. But I'd put her at about 35-40 pounds overweight, from what little the director lets the camera access to. If your familiar with her film work, it especially hits you, because she was MGM-slim, as the ladies were required to be. That said, I think it's a little sad that the poster spelled her name as "Southern," which means she's pretty much forgotten. But not by me.
That thing Ann does with that big fur muff- holding it in front of her tum-tum- is an old Hollywood trick. They would use coats, sweaters, big handbags, suitcases, any prop they could think of. As overweight as she was for decades, she made it into her 90s. I really liked her, saw her series when the reruns played in the daytime.
