Heavy Rains Flood Southern China

China's southern regions are getting pounded by heavy rains. Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, and Guangxi provinces are suffering major flooding. Here's more from our China team.

STORY:
Last Thursday and Friday torrential rains hit the cities of Guangdong, Dongguan and Shenzhen. Ten students died when a wall collapsed burying a school bus in the town of Humen. At least six other were killed and one is still missing in Shenzhen.

"The rain was very heavy; and the boundary wall just collapsed and killed the students."

[Resident, Shenzhen City]: (DO NOT TITLE BAR)
"Yesterday, it flooded here. My shop was flooded. Now the electricity and water are cut off. The situation is very miserable. I will lose a fortune for closing my shop."

A second round of heavy rain has caused the flooding of the Raohe River. Over two million people are affected.

"The flooding is everywhere. I just went to the river to have a look. Many trees have collapsed and the crops were washed away with the dirt. Heaven wants to punish us. We have to suffer, too."

The heavy rain is also causing landslides in the mountains. The water level in many rivers has increased sharply. Three people died in the city of Liuzhou, in Yongzhou Dao County, Hunan Province.

"Our Guanxi has suffered a big disaster, farm lands and houses are all flooded."

[Resident, Huaihua Hunan]
"The water level in the river has risen up and all the houses along the riverside has been washed away by the flood."

Rain is forecast for the next several days.
