The Day After: CentralWorld Mall, Bangkok, Smoulders - 20 May 2010

CentralWorld mall reveals the shocking devastation of the fire that raged into the night, the huge shopping complex has been ravaged by the burning and a massive section has completely disappeared, its been torn apart. Along the side, the acres of glass panels broken, their lattice-like framework twisted and shattered in the fiery furnace. The billowing smoke that yesterday rose to wreathe the office block above has all gone though, replaced today by billowing clouds of steam as firefighters hose down the still-smouldering carcass of the mall. Curiously, rising out of the wreckage around CentralWorld, the Head by Indian artist Ravinder Reddy which was donated to the city by the Indian Chamber of Commerce, rises totally intact, untouched by the heat and flames, still gleaming, eyes looking straight ahead almost oblivious - even disdainful - to the chaos and mess around it.
