I didn't bother reading all the other shite everyone posted.
Here is the winning comment :-
Monkey with a Halo.

yeah widdly speed metal was rubbish, but proper thrash was great

I was just exaggerating to point out how great and influential these guys are. And forgive me but I do think Pearl Jam takes a bit from them, after all the whole grunge genre owes a part to Pixies, Sonic Youth and Jane's Addiction.
-
True. The did have an influence but blanket statements like that are just stupid.
-
I know that but, it's still a foolish thing to say the pixies created modern rock.
-
Kurt Cobain stated that he was heavily influenced by the Pixies, saying that "Smells like teen spirit was just us trying to copy the pixies" so I suppose he's right there, even if he was overexaggerating a bit/.
-
Nirvana came out in 1987 so they would still be around. Pearl Jam was not influenced by the pixies. "no modern alternative music..." are you serious?
-
Actually, you just failed to understand the comment. I was responding to one of the most popular comments at the time which was "What sort of moron wouldn't like this song?" Apparently, that's the sentiment of many Pixies fans. So now what do you have to say?
-
this or surfer rosa? harder to decide with every listen

For their time period? The late eighties? The Pixies smash anything Micheal Jackson or New Wave ever did. Speed metal was always a joke. So what'chu talking 'bout willis?
