Used ClydeSight's technique of using strapping box tape for a drive belt, as rubber would not work properly on this unit. You can see the cool design on the inside.

  • Interesting Idea, although I don't think they shouldn't have made the wheels directly turn the capstan as that's gonna put tons of stress on them. You could put some paper round one of the pulleys to act as a kind of friction clutch, then use a flat belt instead of a "sticky tape" belt. the paper should be able to slip a little like the original fiber belt. The "sticky tape belt" can come apart very easily, as I saw it did in this video.

  • However it is, the technique I used provides plenty of wow and flutter. I think the fiber originally used was that it didn't stretch as a rubber belt would-the stretching would have cause an unstable speed likely.

  • I just bought a 8-track to cassette adapter, It's a Sparkomatic SCA-10. It has a much much simpler design, and the power input for the preamp is ingenious! I must upload a video later.

Nice adapter, too bad it won't work right.

  • Does it get its power from the splice sensor?

  • Can't You A Tight Thin Rubber Band ?

  • I tried several rubber bands, but they run unstable and slip and run against the bottom of the drive wheel.

  • That one seems really nice. I hate the ones that are really long with the big bulky cassette part AND the full size 8 track. It's nice that this one is all flush.

  • Wow problem. Do not be angry, but it is funny how it sounds!

    Regards! :)

  • I was wondering about that after I posted, I was thinking "wait a minute, if that's the main drive belt, it won't work very well", but it could still work in another machine that has a disintegrated fiber belt that used to drive the take up.

  • It does, actually.

  • What are the names of the songs at 0:30

  • this is a common adapter sold under lots of names but radio shack sold a lot of them they where also called audiovox krako sparkomatic and lots more. but are the same unit
